For me this piece has a social and political flavor.  The ability to step back and see the bigger picture in life is a rare and valued ability.  All too often we are so immersed in our immediate problems that we neglect to take a step back, or in this case a step up, to obtain that broader vision.  This figure has accomplished that and has now suddenly found himself in a position of greater understanding; he has a 'eureka moment'.
